Written Statement:
My portfolio was a way for me to explore some of my past feelings of anxiety and the struggles I've faced in my life. It was very frustrating at first, because I never could capture my pain accurately, and at some points I really thought I wouldn't be able to pull it off. It wasn't until around halfway through that I started to let myself illustrate my struggles without overthinking the outcome.
The compositions of my pieces started improving as well; where before it was a fight to make the compositions unique and interesting, it became something I actually enjoyed. I similarly worked to use contrast in all of my pieces, even before I began using blacks, whites and grays. When I worked in color, I tried to find a balance between the cool and warm tones to make the colors pop and stand out against each other.
Although this portfolio was a lot of work, and although it was a struggle, I'm very proud of it.
